Farming

The farm is about 570acres, of mainly arable crops grown on a simple rotation of a first wheat and second wheat, followed by oilseed rape or winter beans. The remainder is either grassland, woodland or has been taken out of production and entered into agri-environment schemes (we are currently in HLS). As part of these agri-environment schemes over the past 10 years we have planted a number of small woods, planted or managed (through coppicing or laying) nearly 10km of hedgerows, dug 3 new ponds and established numerous grass field margins; to protect watercourses. We also plant areas of wild bird cover to provide food and shelter for small birds over winter. In June 2011 this work was rewarded when we were nominated for the Bedfordshire FWAG conservation competition, eventually finishing runner up.

We are always looking at ways to expand so would be interested in any opportunities to rent, contract farm or share farm. Please get in contact if you would be interested in discussing any of these options.

2011 also marked another ‘first’ for the business as we hosted the Bedfordshire Young Farmers Rally & Show on 21st May. Around 3000 visitors attended to see the young farmers competing in stock, machinery, handicrafts, flower arranging tug-of-war and main ring competitions, along with over 50 local agricultural and rural business trade stands. The event was a great success, right down to the brilliant weather.

Hay & straw

We also sell hay and straw in small bales, with the option to collect from farm or deliver locally.
